Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD)

Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) is a common enzyme that, because of similarities to certain bacterial proteins, can provoke an autoimmune reaction against beta cells of the pancreas progressing to type 1 diabetes mellitus.
