Ketone bodies

Ketone bodies are water-soluble molecules produced by the liver from fatty acids during periods of low food intake, fasting, or carbohydrate restriction. The primary ketone bodies produced in the human body are acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and acetone.
