LADA shares clinical and metabolic characteristics with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This is a heterogeneous disease which can arise at any age. Individuals are categorised as having LADA if they do not require insulin therapy for a minimum of 6 months post-diagnosis of adult-onset autoimmune diabetes.
